Morning hangs heavy, sunk in gloom. It’s strange to see LA swathed in grey upon waking each day. Perhaps it is the weight of the clouds, perhaps it is the anticipation of the weeks to come, but my spirit feels restless.
It seems that the skies insist on mirroring or imprinting on my (our… Drew is in the same boat) mood. The thing is I’m not upset about it, I’m not depressed and drowning in my own sorrows… I think maybe it’s more of a quieting of spirit, a reflective, pensive state of mind.
I had a conversation with a dear friend, who finds herself in a state of business and chaos, a feeling which could quickly overwhelm. Another friend finds herself in a state of waiting and still another in a season of want. Each conversation leading me to the same conclusion, much like the Beatles song, life flows in seasons and we must learn to find harmony within the change.
I don’t know about you, but I do not like certain seasons. I suppose they all have their charm, but if we are honest with ourselves, all seasons were not created equal.
Take winter for example (if you live in a NORMAL climate that is, I have not adjusted to this whole warm winter thing yet). For the most part, winter is cold, really cold, and dreary, and froze, and dull, and did I mention it is hella cold?! I hate it. Snow is pretty for like 2 minutes (ok, a month if you are going to push me), but I don’t love it. Also, four months of gloom sets even the most jovial of individuals on edge.
So it is with the seasons of life. Some are incredible, all sunny skies and birds chirping (in a beautiful way, not in the way where you want to strangle them) and everything just feels… right somehow. It is as if a magical spell has been cast and you never want it to break. On the flip side however, are clouds, angry clouds, and birds are chirping in the most mind melting way (the way in which you want to shoot them), making everything feel cold and pointless… This season will try your spirit and beg it to break.
Obviously these are extremes, most of the time we reside somewhere in the middle. A healthy blend of highs and lows. But sometimes, when the clouds roll in, it is important to close your eyes, calm your mind, and remember, the sun is still there, patiently waiting to shine on you again.
