How people relax is beyond me. I wish I understood that magical gift. In todays hustle and bustle the art of relaxation is a rarity (seriously, I once had a client who taught a college course relaxing! amazing right?).
What I wouldn't give to be pool side with a good book and a cocktail, lounging in the sun, not a care in the world. However, the reality is that if I were lounging by the pool I would be focusing on what I need to get done the next day, next week, or month, I can't turn my brain off. I wouldn't fully enjoy what was happening around me, because my mind would be preoccupied with other matters. Not to mention I would be able to deal with all of the issues far more effectively at a later time.
Learning to be present, learning to let things go, is a topic I ramble about regularly, though lately this idea has been drifting into my mind more and more. The holidays are fast approaching and I want, desperately, to be fully present when I am home with friends and family. I want to be able to enjoy the parties and gatherings without feeling distracted or torn.
(I am going to say something now, and you are not allowed to make fun of me for this- Yoga has been a huge help in teaching me to be in the moment, to breath and flow within my present space. It is such a beautiful practice and I highly recommend it...)
You can't get moments back, so take them as they come, for everything they are. Messy and beautiful, perfect and imperfect, the moment is made by shutting off all the distraction, letting go of your troubles (even if it is only momentarily) and being a part of it all, 120%.
