Many moons ago I wrote about my love for the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs... that love endures, but that's not why I am writing to you today (though, if you give me an inch I will take a mile and ramble on about it's gloriousness for at least 3 paragraphs... but I will resist).
At the start of this year the Ace opened a new location in Down Town Los Angeles (DTLA y'all) and while I was excited I had no idea just what we (the greater LA community) were in for. This hotel is more than just a HOTEL... it is community, it is a heart beat.
Since moving into the barren oasis that was North Broadway, shops, restaurants, and business have been flocking to the area. Once abandoned buildings are being renovated, affluent companies (such as Acne Studios, Aesop, Urban Outfitters, and Tanner Goods, just to name a few) are opening their doors for business at an increasingly rapid pace... it is a thing to behold! And it was because of the power behind the brand of 'the Ace'.
This space is magic. I often forget that it is a hotel where people come to stay. Drew and I go regularly for all manner of things non leisure related. We work on the mezzanine at the long community table, sipping coffee and chatting with TJ and Kyle from the bar. We bring friends for dinner, have lunch meetings, and business cocktails on the roof. The theater (yes, they have a theater... like a proper staged theater!) has become a favorite venue, always hosting interesting and unique events. The energy and life it brings to the city is truly incredible.
There is a sense of welcome in the air, the staff is one of a kind (truly, everyone always looks amazing and is in the best of moods, even on the hard days). There is a harmony which flows and it comes from within, from the people. The Ace would simply be another hotel if it wasn't for those who took the time, those who pay attention, to make it what it is.
Jason, Autumn, Eavie, TJ, Kyle, Gordon, Chantelle, Mireyah, Tim, Bubba and so so many more, you make this place the gem that it is! Thank you (isn't enough) from the bottom of my LA loving heart.
xx
