Snowflakes fell, slow, drifting in the crisp midday air. I sat, silent, in the back seat, watching a frost covered world drift past the car window. Why couldn't we just stay? Everything is good here.
My heart beat matched the echo of my footsteps. Up the corridor, across the jetway, down the narrow path lined with narrow seats. It sank with the click of the seat belt, burrowed deep inside my chest as the captain came over the load speaker. I closed my eyes as the wheels left the ground; one valiant leap, chasing the sunset.
One home behind, the other ahead, I sat thousands of miles above and between.
Runways. Takeoff. Land. Board. Deplane. Close your eyes.
In the morning the world was new. The sky was clear and warm.
I love two worlds but can only exist in one. I am happy here. This place, for now, for always, is home.
