I like to believe that 'Benny and the Jets' was written about Benny 'The Jet' Rodriguez. Dear lord I loved that boy! Talk about childhood crushes, I mean... JTT and Benny 'The Jet' topped the charts for a solid year (or two... maybe three).
Until the other day when I, oh so smoothly, referenced The Sandlot in my Fourth of July post, I had completely forgot about this childhood love. He was tall, dark, athletic, exotic, and handsome, can you blame me!? I mean, the way he kept his coo, the way he laced up his PF Flyers to take on The Beast!? Not to sound creepy or anything, but damn, he was impressive (to my ten year old self)... His confidence, his unwavering dedication to the game, the faith he had in his team!? Role model material no doubt.
Over time I grew out of this 'phase' and moved on to real boys where real emotions were on the line... However, we all start with childhood crushes, the kind that led us to believe that love really does exist... somewhere in the universe... and if only that person walked into our world we would live happily ever after. Every now and again however, it is nice to remember those first unhindered moments, when anything seemed possible.
