Dear Oblivious Nation,
Riddle me this, how is it you can claim innocence for... EVERYTHING IN YOUR LIFE!? Nothing is ever your fault, there are always other people to blame. You are brilliant. You are good... you look in the mirror and see Beyonce staring back at you- flawless.
HOW!? Tell me please.
I (at times) am of the opposite mind. Feeling that EVERYTHING is my fault. I am to blame. Believing that I am just the worst and that I ruin things which are perfectly nice and good. These are just some of the unwelcome side effects of these emotions.
I mean... this is not an all the time feeling (obviously). I think I am (generally) a good person, I want good things for people, and I (try to) have a positive outlook on life. BUT the scales are easily tipped and my 'helper at heart' nature goes into 'fix it' mode the moment someone else has a bad day. My needs go out the window and I instantly try to shoulder their burdens as well as my own... now this isn't a bad thing, in theory, HOWEVER, when it becomes detrimental to my emotional state we begin to have problems. The 'I am the worst' mindset tends to takeover the moment I feel like I am failing.
WHY?!
Failure, is a good thing, Malchom Gladwell and Seth Godin write about it ALL the time. Culture has turned failing into a four letter word, which is a tragedy. Failing gives you a platform to build from, it teaches you things you may have never learned and sheds light on your weakness's; so you are then able to turn those 'weakness's' into strengths. Therefore, I, if I change my mindset and learn from my failures, am far more likely to have a better future than Mr. Happy-Go-Lucky who has never failed at anything... EVER.
That being said, which category do you fall into? How do you view your faults? Maybe we should work towards a different mantra together, one of affirmation and positivity... one that says, 'today I failed, tomorrow I will do better'.
Let's turn the tables, flip the script, re-write the plot (and any other cheesy analogy you would like) because we are all Beyonce at heart- flawless.
xx
