Ladies, (guys too but you won't appreciate this nearly as much) can we just have a moments for the holy grail of nail varnish that is the BON BON! Gosh they were great weren't they!?
If you never experienced Bon Bons as a wee girl I feel sorry for you, I truly do. They were a magical, pocket sized polish which came in a trillion different colors and were so cheap moms couldn't say no to you picking one up when you were at the grocery store (incentive to behave... manipulation at it's finest).
I remember sitting in my cousins bedroom, the floor looking as though Candy Land and Pretty Pretty Princess had exploded into a magical blanket of costume jewelry, candy wrappers and Bon Bon bottles. We would sit for hours carefully picking out the 5+ colors which would grace our tiny toy like hands (each nail HAD to be different, DUH). We would settle in the living room to do the polishing. Put in a VHS, plop down on the sofa and get to work. Aw and wonder filled our minds as our favorite Disney Princess waltzed on to the screen, the smell of freshly popped popcorn torturing our tiny noses until my aunt convinced us that, "an hour was long enough for our nails to dry, eat the damn popcorn!" she said this while laughing at us of course.
Please note, nothing has changed, I still wait forever for my nails to dry *paranoid*.
Bon Bons hold a special place in my heart as does Bonnie Bell lip gloss. Every little girl should have a Caboodle full of both if you ask me... then again this may explain why I have ended up as a hairstylist and makeup artist... but that is a post for another day.
