I think now is a time to check in... a beneficial practice every now and again.
Currently I am sitting at Civil Coffee in Highland Park. Drew and I have made a habit out of walking to the train in China Town and coming up to Civil on a regular basis (for Drew it is daily, for me, it is when I can). Civil has become our coffee 'home' as of late. We chat with the owners and employees, building relationship and community. It is refreshing to feel this sense of connectedness in a city where you can easily become another face in a sea of faces.
I am currently very into the riding of the train. It is nice to commute with people.
Food is a huge part of my life at the moment. Preparing it, cooking it, researching it, reading about it, watching tv shows or listening to podcasts about it... its a thing to say the least.
The Atwater Farmers Market is my current favorite place to purchase groceries. There is Tim and Vanessa our meat people, Kenter Canyon Farms, the almond and olive guy who hustles his goods ("3 for 5, 3 for 5... your total comes to $35, but for you I'll do $30").
"Taking a Sabbath" is something Drew and I have been trying to do every week. We take one day (usually Sunday) and don't work. I know... this seems like a simple task, but I can't lie to you, the first few weeks were TERRIBLE! The anxiety of 'nothing' felt oppressive. Over the course of the last few months however, we have learned to do nothing quite well, to read, go for a walk, go to the farmers market, see friends, go to Ojai. It is wonderful, I highly recommend it.
I am currently reading Then Again by Diane Keaton... I love Diane Keaton. She is brilliant, beautiful, funny, self depreciating, a killer mom and badass woman. I love her, that is all.
I am writing 'To Do' lists and planning for tomorrows photo shoot.
I'm breathing. Slowly. Doing my best to pace myself. There is a lot happening, a lot of wheels turning and yet. If I slow down, remember my place, my center, it all comes into focus and I feel the balance come back to my ever beating heart.
What are you up to at this current moment?
