FORGIVE AND FORGET

I was once told (by a really amazing, world famous hairstylist) to forgive myself for the mistakes I was going to make. Coming from her, I took it to heart.

This is a really liberating thought... if you can actually do it. But often times forgiving ones self is as easy as pulling ones own tooth out; incredibly painful, bloody and difficult.

We are our own worst critic, pulling every last detail of ourselves apart, thinking of all we would change, if we could. We roll the scenes of our lives, past, present, and future, back and forth in our mind, slide after slide, projected with magnified emotion and drama.

How did you handle that important client meeting? Which questions did you falter on in your interview? What words did you let slip from the space between your lips?

We lye in bed, obsessing over how we would do things differently next time. You guys, this takes up so much mental energy. I'm not saying you can't imagine the scenes of your life, but the fact is, the past is in the (unchangeable) past and at some point you have to let it go (after all, if your hands are full with the past, how will they ever be open to receive the goodness and promise of the present and future).

Forgive and forget. Forgive and forget. Mistakes will be made. Things will fall apart. But that is ok, you are more than your faults... the sooner you accept this truth the better.

xx
