OR IS IT!?
The 'humble brag', the self compliment, the 'pat on ones own back' way of phrasing things. It is an art form... but is it one we should master or leaver behind?
Perhaps it is because I, personally, lean to the way of self deprecation and comedy (like Shakespeares version of comedy, which is more tragedy if we are being honest). I get uncomfortable when OTHER PEOPLE compliment me, how am I supposed to compliment myself?! The other side of the same coin however, is that confidence and cockiness tote a fine line (which I have mentioned before, but I feel like the humble brag rides that line so I needed to bring it up again).
I mean, there is that whole theory that 'girls can't take compliments' which is totally true like 75% of the time. What is also true, is that this is ridiculous and should be changed straight away. The people for whom this is not the case are in an enviable position. Taking a compliment, feeling ones worth, knowing that you do is worth while comes from within (if you watch Project Runway Amanda Valentine is the tits at doing this! It blows me away. She is confident and a good sport! GOOD ON YOU AMANDA! YOU GO GIRL).
Does this reserve of self worth or good juju start at a young age? Is it foraged through good teachers and a great support system? Or is it simply a character trait learned over time which can't be taught?
I am of the mind that having a deep understanding of self worth and value is essential to a successful life ('successful' in your own right, no matter what it looks like). Confidence will naturally come from this sense of value, you will radiate with the energy of 'zero f*&^s given' and take things in stride. The key is keep actual humility, compassion, understanding, and grace at the forefront of ones mind with 'the self' taking the passenger seat.
Be determined, be confident, be successful, but don't trounce on others to make yourself 'feel' those things (it's awful and no way to live).
What features do you like about yourself? What makes you, YOU? What sets you apart? These things are beautiful and amazing and worth appreciation, never forget that.
Go my about your day dear reader, with your head held high! You are amazing to me and the world should feel the same (just don't get a big head about it).
