It is funny to me... how short memory can be.
We oscillate from exhilaration to the depths of depression in the blink of an eye. The journey from the highest heights to the lowest valley is really not that far in hindsight, but in the moment it is all we can dwell upon... the struggle, the victory, the failure or success.
Days are defined by how we feel we performed, how we interacted with the world and how it, in return, interacted with us. What is your narrative saying to you (and about you)?
I write all of this because a month (or so) ago, I had one of the most... seemingly... big events happen in my career and two days later I considered myself a failure because I wasn't BOOKED EVERY DAY FOREVER! I had work coming up (with good clients) and I was getting inquiries... but in that moment I felt absolutely powerless and unsuccessful; I forgot why I do what I do, and what I HAVE done. WHY? Whose to say. BUT, what I can tell you is that the valleys of the spirit most certainly give you perspective on the mountains the soul longs to climb (professionally and emotionally).
That being said, I suppose I should do my research, plan a rout, strap on some good hiking shoes and get to it. After all, their are many paths which lead to the top, but no matter how you look at it you always have to climb.
xx
*elephants never forget... maybe we never forget but instead we learn to live beyond (memory, pain, etc.).
