Snow fell in quiet white sheets outside the frosted windows. "Peace on earth" was palpable in the the post New Year chaos. It was as if the entire city had burst, a brilliant bright ball of energy and light, now settling into soft snowdrifts; insulating and comforting to all tucked inside. The unsuspecting world passed by, as we sat drinking wine, laughing until we cried, for the horror of it all.
Black and white cards sprawled across the white lacquer coffee table. "What?!" Mar shouted, "That isn't fair! Zac! Cam is your brother, he knows you too well. My card was obviously better! Just because it isn't nerd humor, doesn't mean it's of lesser comedic value!" These outburst broke the calm and quiet, confetti exploding in brilliant bursts of joy.
Every card played showing more and more of our dark and twisted humor; the winning pairings never to be repeated outloud for fear of offending all who may hear.
I have yet to be so wonderfully put off in the months since this glorious occasion. But like an addict looking for a fix, I long to find this feeling again.
What were we playing, you may ask? Why Cards Against Humanity of course.
My darling Jill, Mar, Zac, Cam, Erl, and Drew, let's pour some wine, sit on cushions, find our way to a new Virginia and offend each other again soon.
