You know those people, they are at every party, the ones who always have a little something up there sleeve, ready and waiting for the right moment to whip it out and dazzle you with their hidden talents? (yes, I realize how that sounds... get your mind out of the gutter)
Everyone does it at one point or another, one by one, we bust them out, a badge of honor, our most prized party trick.
I have a friend who insists on DJing... everything... dinner parties, dance parties, car rides, it is her thing (supposedly). Another friend does a Michael Jackson dance number to the ooos and ahhhs of those around her. Yet another imitates his friends dance moves and another cuts the tops off champagne bottles; the list goes on and on. Don't get me wrong, these things are impressive, but it got me to thinking... what is my party trick? What is yours?
I feel like I tend to tell ill-fitting stories I find humorous (much to the chagrin of many of my friends) and I can also twist my lips to look like Popeye (a skill I developed at a very young age), but I don't really pull these things from my sleeve like "ah ha! Now the party is complete" which is how I think most people feel about their particular tricks. They, subconsciously, think "yes, this is my moment, this is my time to shine!" and I'm all like "yes! this is their moment, no one is looking at me, I can run away now" (kidding! I'm not that insecure... most of the time).
As an onlooker we never think twice about it. We watch, we laugh, we smile and applaud! And why wouldn't we? Why shouldn't we? After all, what would a party be without it's tricks?
