A friend of ours recently became obsessed with the idea of "passing time"... not like, letting the time you have slip through your fingers, but rather spending intentional time with quality people with little (to no) intention other than to be in one another presence.
We get really good at this concept in college, endless days filled with endless hours of drinking wine on someones front porch simply being together, talking, laughing, and being present, the rest of life would figure itself out, 'for now is all that matters'. Now a-days we carry more mental baggage and more responsibility... we need to plan everything and if we are spending our time on something it needs to add to our life in some way or it is a waste of our precious time. While I am guilty of feeling this way, I am also growing to realize just how detrimental that way of thinking can be.
If we have to be doing something all the time, if we have to know the nights events down to the very last second, are we really free to enjoy it? Or are we getting caught up in the details? We can't live life like a bride obsessed with her wedding day. We need to live in such a way that our lives fulfill our dreams, support our goals and emotional needs. We need to learn to pass the time with the people who can speak truth, joy, wisdom, and positivity into our lives. To breath deeply and simply be.
There will be things to plan. There will be nights which need to be timed. And I will be guilty of doing too many things far too often... but, every now and again, I will sit with my friends and pass the time.
xx
*while in Denver we passed an after noon chatting with dear friends. We went for a walk around the neighbor hood and visited Joe (the man who owns and runs the shop in the photo), we bought him a candy bar and laughed about life moment... it was one of my favorite moments of the trip.
