Time and the bell have buried the day, The black cloud carries the sun away.
T.S. Elliot
TIme is limited. Time is valuable. Time is finite...and not to beat a dead horse, but you guys, I'm really starting to question where and how I spend my time.
I recently wrote a piece for Darling Magazines up coming Spring issue on being busy, which touched on the idea of how we use our time. Obviously I can't tell you what it is all about, you will just have to pick up a copy (it is worth the purchase) for yourself and see just how I tied our busy lives into a nice little package. However, working on the piece really made me think, what is taking up my time? What is worth my time?
We all do things, ever day, we don't really want to do (like today I have to shower and wash my hair... I don't want to wash my hair, but I haven't washed in like... ya know... 5 days [it's not gross I swear]). The question then becomes, what are we allowing to eat away at our time? What do we feel good about spending our time on and what makes us feel guilty?
Exhibit A) I find reading to be rather enjoyable... but I often feel that it is a waste of my time because I can't accomplish anything else while doing it. Which is bull shit, reading is great for my mental state and far more productive than 92% of the things I do in my life (ok that is an exaggeration... but you know what I mean)
Exhibit B) sleep. I give up sleep in order to get that project done. I wake up too early (ungodly early) to do yoga before a 13 hour day on set... I know, bonkers. Good intentions make me do it and then my body wants to kill me... it's really a win loose. Sleep is essential to a healthy existence and I sacrifice my slumber far too often.
The sad thing is, I willingly give my time to my phone and social media. I compulsively check my instagram and email (twitter is still a new game for me) without batting an eye lash.
I'm not about to tell you how to run your life, far from it. But I do want to ask you... what do you value?
