How do you separate your wants and desires? Is there a line you draw clearly in the sand telling you- this is a want… this is a need… or is it a bit more blurred?
Let’s face it, as an adult there is a whole lot of shit you have to pay for (literally shit. Parking tickets, bills, insurance, taxes, rent, house payment, school, loans, school-loans, yada yada yada…) leaving less and less cash to purchase the things we actually want. It is disheartening at times.
At one of our Sunday breakfasts Drew and I decided to write out a list of all the things we want vs. all of the things we need (onto the paper tablecloth mind you). As the list grew so did my anxiety. How could we ever afford all of these thing? On what planet are people able to afford of of those things… leading us to the realization that Puffy lied (mo-money mo-problems my ass) MO-MONEYLESS PROBLEMS. Don’t get me wrong, we are fine, however, perusal we don’t have superfluous funds to, you know, buy a new mattress… or fly to paris, that sort of thing.
I only ask because the holidays are coming up. That joyous time of year where you attend copious amounts of parties (a bottle of wine for each host $), purchase gifts for those you love ($$), and fly home because you are a good child (x2 $$$). Things add up quickly this time of year, so how does one budget without turning into Scrooge McDuck?
Pointers and tips are welcome, but if you quote Dave Ramsey you can gtfo.
