I have long considered what my life will be like down the road... What I will do, how I will spend my days. I think on this question for far too long and then (as I sip my coffee... I usually have these thoughts while sipping coffee) I wander off down a road I'm not sure that I am ready to go down. Then again...
The other day, while walking down one of these rabbit trails in my mind, I stumbled across an idea I rather enjoyed. I could see it perfectly, I could smell the sweet of fresh baked bread and brewed coffee, I could hear the laughter... a sun drenched house... The Welcoming Room (name subject to change).
This place comforts me, it is the sanctuary of my future self. A home away from home... a bed and breakfast of sorts... but not really.
I want to own an estate. I realize that makes me sound like a high minded jack ass, allow me to explain. I want to own an estate with a garden, I want guests to come and forget their troubles, I want to cook for people and make them feel like they are visiting an old friend, not staying in a strangers home (what is what a traditional bed and breakfast is if you think about it). The rooms would be simple, comfortable, and well designed. The common areas would feature a fire place (in doors and out) and would foster conversation among the guests. Upon arrival you would be presented with a menu for dinner that evening and breakfast the following morning, selecting which dishes you would like to sample and any food allergies that may concern you (DUH). AND THATS NOT ALL.
I want there to be a room... an anex of sorts, which functions as a cafe and bakery (gluten free of course), so that people in the community can be as much a part of the space as the guests who are visiting.
I realize this sound crazy and unrealistic but it feels incredibly tangible to me. I can taste the pastries lining the crisp white shelves, I can hear the records spinning in the common room, soft music floating lazily through the warm kitchens and out into the garden. This is my home... someday.
xx
