This week the world lost a brilliant, beautiful soul. Oscar de la Renta passed from our realm to the next on Monday, October 20,2014.
Though I may never be able to afford a piece by "the sultan of suave" I have admired his skills, his edited eye, brilliant mind and his passion for dressing women beautifully. Oscar was responsible for the demure, couture of Jacqueline Kennedy (and nearly every first lady there after), Oprah, Ann Hathaway, and many many others (including one Amal Alamuddin a.k.a George Clooneys now wife's wedding gown) .
While, yes, it is hard to deny his accolades for design (his work speaks VOLUMES for itself), but I think what I admired most, was the lens through which he viewed the world. Oscar saw beauty, true beauty. He desired women to be and feel as stunning on the outside as they were (most importantly) on the inside-
"The qualities I most admire in women are confidence and kindness"
Oscar, the (fashion) world will never be the same. Thank you for the grace, the beauty, the light which you shed into our world for a time.
