Dear world,
Today I claim (proclaim, reclaim... take your pick) as a day of refreshment. Not a day of 'refreshments', though I could totally go for a day filled with nothing but snacks and (spiked) punch and a bowl full of smooth n' melty mints (dear lord I love those things). But a day of re-fresh-ment, a do over, a fresh start, a 'it's been a rough few days lets try this again' sort of a thing.
We all get into cycles of life where we wake up, get ready, go to work, come home, netflix n chill, pass out, start over. In my case each day may have a bit of variation (due to working as a freelancer) but its still the same idea; one day, followed by another day. This sort of 'being' can become exhausting, even at it's best, I think we can get caught up in the mundane-ness of it all. My question is this- what if we give ourselves permission to hit the refresh button? What if we say, "Today is a new day! I am here, I am thankful for the air in my lungs, the body I inhabit, the heart beating in my chest. I have another day to go and be in the world. I choose today and I choose to be the best version of myself in it."
Obviously we would all like to be the best version of ourselves all of the time every day, but let's face it, there are hard days! We get caught up in things, we stumble, we get stressed, we loose sight of what we actually care about. Hitting the refresh button is like going Minority Report and gaining a fresh set of eyeballs, that is to say, we gain a change of perspective (sorry, was that too graphic? I am now imagining the scene where Tom Cruise catches his eye ball by the tendons when it nearly falls down the grate in the floor... woof).
ANYWAYS... Back to my point.
Today I choose to breath deeply, to be where I am and do my best to not get overwhelmed by the busy week ahead. There is so much to be worried about these days, but I find that when I slow down and realize that I am good in the moment I am in... everything else seems a little more possible.
What will you choose today? How will you refresh?
I don't normally 'proscribe' things but today I do want to offer tips on how to refresh. Every personality needs something different, so if an idea resonates with you try that first and go from there-
Slow down and do some yoga- either at home or in a class, yoga allows you to breath, connecting you directly to your body. It is an amazing feeling, scouts.
Go for a walk. Outside is preferable, fresh air does the body good, but if you can't go out doors (due to heat or cold) get on a treadmill, listen to some music and let your mind find it's calm place.
Talk to a friend or loved one.
Go find some quite by yourself. I know that I don't do this enough. Being alone and quite is SO hard. In our world that is so over stimulated and ultra 'connected' through social media, we don't really know how to be 'still' any more. Though this is difficult it is super rewarding!
Travel. Go have an adventure. Even if it is just going to a different part of the city you live in, having dinner at a new restaurant, going for a long drive, changing things up can unlock a part of your head space that may be feeling a little bit stifled and stagnant.
Cook. Create. Do something for yourself! The older I get the more I am realizing how essential having a practice of 'self care' is. I am the first person to burn myself out for the sake of everyone else... but what good I am to everyone else if I have nothing left to give? Find the things that restore you as a person and invest in them on a regular basis.
You do you boo and be good to yourself, as you are, right now.
Sending you love and light.
xx
