This past week Drew and I celebrated our two year wedding anniversary, crazy right?! My how the time has flown since that magical day which joined our young hearts in (un)holy matrimony (I say unholy because we were married on a hill... by a dear friend...with a fifteen minute ceremony...not exactly 'traditional'). At any rate it was, I kid you not, the best wedding probably ever and I am sorry that I can't share the brilliance of it with you in full... but I mean... you can see a little bit of the magic if you want to...
We celebrated by spending a week in the PNW, which was fairly epic. And while I will regale you with stories of that week in it's entirety (at some point), today I want to share how we spent the day itself went a little something like this-
I awoke to a soft kiss on the cheek, "Good morning, I love you." sleep faded away and the beautiful reality of the day ahead shimmered before my eyes. It has been two years! Two years since we stood in the embrace of our closest friends and family, promising to live fully, love deeply and run whole heartedly into the bright unknown of our futures; together.
Fog drifted across the Sound as we drove into Seattle, the sun peaking out from behind a bank of clouds, thinner than a whisper. The city sat, waiting, for the day ahead.
We pulled onto the streets of Ballard, sunlight flooding the sidewalks filled with families and friends wandering through the famers market, ducking in and out of shops and, as we were meant to do, sitting down to brunch. Percy and Co. had just opened when we tucked oursleves into a both by the front windows. Light poured in, smoother than aged whiskey, reflecting off the polished bar, illuminating the plants which fell organically from the walls and tops of cupboards. Our server was warm, a long lost friend in a city of strangers. He brought us coffee and asked us questions, told us stories and shared the cities secrets; where to go and what to do, kindly suggesting how we should spend our day.
Drew and I talked about life, love, inspiration and creativity, family and friendships while we ate the perfect breakfast (eggs, [house made] bacon, crisp potatoes and avocado). That is something I have always loved about him, we can talk for hours and never get sick of each other. We often joke that the person you marry is the only person you can truly stand being around (for longer than a week) and not get sick of... and while there is humor in this statement there is also extreme truth.
We joined the masses in the post brunch shuffle through Pike Place Market. The flower stalls, trinkets shops and flying fish all being captured through the lenses of passers by. As we floated through the throngs of people I wondered if anyone in the market was actually from Seattle or if everyone, not unlike us, were tourists wanting to take part in the energy of the space.
Our afternoon passed slowly in cinematic harmony. There were shops, cafes, laughter and long walks through Seattles charming neighborhoods. We found our rhythm in the energy of the city.
Sitka and Spruce was the perfect setting to toast the year that has past and celebrate the years to come. The large windows, long community table and open kitchen with wood burning fire welcomed you in, anticipating your desires before you knew they were a reality to behold. We spent hours wrapped in conversation and laughter with Phil and Meg (family and friends combined). We ate until we couldn't anymore; sipping French wine, savoring each moment in the beautiful space.
Our night ended at a small vintage theater tucked in the heart of Capitol Hill. Boyhood carried us through a journey of the soul. Inspiring us, challenging or ideas of life, of love, of everything this day had been about, leaving us with hearts content in the reality of the unknown.
Phil and Meg dropped us at our car, a moment threatening to crush the beauty of our day as we realized the back window was shimmering (as my sweet dreams had been that very morning) in a million little piece all over the sidewalk; Drews bag having vanished into the night. Drew remained calm, taking the events in stride, reminding me all the more why I love him, why he is amazing, and why he is 'my person'.
Seattle, you were a dream, I hope we meet again soon.
Drew, I love you, more today than yesterday, more tomorrow than today. You know my heart better than anyone and I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you are my home and my coordinates (forever).
xx
